PORTSMOUTH, Va. --- All 30 NBA teams watched Fresno State senior guard Marvelle Harris compete in the 2016 Portsmouth Invitational from April 14-16 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va.
In three games while playing for the Portsmouth Sports Club, Harris scored 26 points for an average of 8.7 points per game. Harris also recorded seven rebounds, seven steals, four assists and one block in the tournament, which features 64 of the best college basketball seniors in the country.
One of Harris' former Bulldog teammates Tyler Johnson (2010-14) participated in the 2014 P.I.T. and caught the attention of the Miami Heat, who later invited Johnson to play on their Summer League team before making Miami's NBA roster during the 2014-15 season. Five players from the 2015 P.I.T. were selected in the NBA draft.
Over the years, the P.I.T. has been a showcase for five of the 50 greatest players in NBA History: Rick Barry, Earl `The Pearl" Monroe, Dave Cowens, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen. More recently, NBA stardom including 2015 NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler participated in the P.I.T.
Harris, who led the Bulldogs' men's basketball to the 2016 Mountain West tournament championship and 2016 NCAA Tournament, finished his Fresno State career as the Bulldogs' all-time leading scorer (2,031 career points) and set the single-season scoring record with 725 points during the 2015-16 season.
Harris -- the 2016 Mountain West Player of the Year and an Associated Press honorable mention All-American -- also earned a spot on the 2015-16 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) first-team All-District 17. Harris set school records for most career free throws (506), free throw attempts (678), field goal attempts (1,595) and games played (136).
