COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State junior Trevor Clayton was announced to the 2015-16 Mountain West Men's Golf All-Conference team on Thursday, as selected by the league's 11 head coaches. He is the first Bulldog selected to the all-league team since Rufie Fessler during Fresno State's inaugural season as a MW member (2012-13).
The All-MW selection for Clayton comes four days after capturing the 2016 Mountain West Men's Golf Individual title. The junior topped a 55-person field with a 9-under-par 207 performance, which included an opening day 6-under-par 66. The win secured an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals and he will be sent to one of six regional sites that will be determined on May 5. Postseason play begins May 16.
In his first season at Fresno State, Clayton led the team with a 72.00 season scoring average, which ranks as one of the top 15 single-season scoring averages at Fresno State since the 1993-94 season. To date, he has played in 11 tournaments (33 rounds), and finished in the top 20 of seven of 11 events.
The 2015-16 MW Men's Golf All-Conference team consists of 10 individuals in addition to its Golfer of the Year (Nahum Mendoza III, San Diego State), Freshman of the Year (Harry Hall, UNLV) and Coach of the Year (Joe Jensen, Wyoming).
