As the Fresno State women's lacrosse team prepares to take on No. 10 Stanford at home on April 15, GoBulldogs.com caught up with freshman attacker Sarah Bloise. The Davis, Calif., native has made an immediate impact on the offensive side of the field during her first season as a Bulldog.
After putting together a decorated prep career at Davis High School, Bloise has continued to succeed this year at the collegiate level. This season, she ranks second on the team in assists (4), draw controls (32), shot attempts (48) and shots on goal (38), and third in goals (15).
We asked her a variety of questions from her favorite home-cooked meal to what's been the biggest adjustment from high school to college lacrosse.
Q: Can you describe your first game as a Bulldog?
BLOISE: It was pretty intimidating. I was trying to do too much because I was nervous. I was all over the field. But that's when you look up to your upperclassmen and that's the beauty of being part of a team.
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment from high school lacrosse to college lacrosse
BLOISE: Time management has been a big adjustment. College lacrosse is more of commitment and much more time-consuming than high school lacrosse. The pace of play is a lot quicker than high school lacrosse, and on high school lacrosse teams there are a couple standout players, but in college it's a combination of all those standout players.
Q: What is something people don't know about Sarah Bloise?
BLOISE: I really like to draw.
Q: What is your favorite home-cooked meal?
BLOISE: My mom's spicy chicken. I always try to recreate it, but she makes it better.
Q: Did you play any other sports growing up?
BLOISE: I also played basketball when I was in high school.
Who were some athletes that you looked up to as a kid?
BLOISE: I was obsessed with the big-name basketball players at the time such as Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. Those were my idols. I wanted to be just like them and be seen in the public eye like that.
Q: Where can we find you on campus?
BLOISE: In the library, people-watching on the second floor.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
BLOISE: I would travel to Uruguay because that's where my family is from and I hear they have some really nice beaches.
Q: Who is the biggest inspiration in your life?
BLOISE: My biggest inspiration is definitely my mom. She really faced a lot of adversity in life while raising my brother and me. She went back to school recently and she just graduated. I really admire her.
