NEWTON, Mass. â€" The postseason accolades continue to roll in for University of Hartford men's lacrosse midfielder Dylan Protesto, as he was named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) All-New England Second Team on Tuesday. The honor is the second for the sophomore, as he received the same distinction from the organization at the conclusion of his rookie season.
Just last week, Protesto, who leads the nation in faceoff win percentage with a .712 clip (255-for-358), was placed on the America East All-Conference First Team as a faceoff specialist, marking his second postseason award from the league. In addition, the Media, Pa., native was integral to the Hawks' run through the America East Championship. In two games, he combined to win 72.7 percent of his duels and added 25 ground balls to earn Most Outstanding Player laurels.
Â
This season, he has collected the second-most ground balls in a single season (140), while his 255 wins at the X are the most in a single season at Hartford. Protesto also leads the America East in ground balls per game (8.2), ranking fourth overall in the nation in the category. He has been a threat on the offensive end as well, adding six goals, including one in the championship game victory over Vermont on Saturday.
Â
Protesto and the Hawks will begin NCAA Tournament play on Wednesday when they head to Quinnipiac for the play-in game at 4 p.m. The contest will be aired live on ESPNU. Wednesday's winner will move on to face Maryland, the top seed in the field, in the Round of 16 on Sunday, May 15, at 12:30 p.m.
