Clayton's postseason run ends at regionals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 2015-16 season came to a close for Fresno State junior Trevor Clayton on Wednesday at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional in Albuquerque. The 'Dogs individual qualifier carded a 54-hole 15-over-par 231, following a final round 7-over-par 79. He tied for 37th overall.
For the second straight day, weather played havoc on the field of 75 as temperatures dipped into the low to mid 50's and rain fell on the UNM Championship Course. On Tuesday, the group dealt with 25-35 mph winds.
The average score improved though, falling to 76.83 on Wednesday, vs. 79.91 on Tuesday on the par 72 course.
Clayton carded 11 pars and seven bogeys during the third round. After an opening stretch of five bogeys over the first seven holes of the round, Clayton shot par on nine of the next 11 holes.
In descending order of qualification, No. 11 Arizona State, TCU, No. 3 USC, No. 15 South Florida and No. 22 San Diego State advanced to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. (May 27-June 1). The individual that moved on was Texas A&M's Cameron Champ, who shot a 5-over-par 221.
SDSU defeated Texas A&M in a playoff for the final team spot, and Cameron Champ (A&M) defeated Peter Kim (Army) in a playoff to advance as the individual low-man.
