INDIANAPOLIS -- On its way to winning the 2016 Mountain West Tournament Championship, the Fresno State men's basketball team hosted 113,333 fans for an average of 6,296 fans per game at the Save Mart Center throughout the 2015-16 season, according to official figures released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
This marks the Bulldogs' first rise in year-to-year average attendance (from 6,190 in 2014-15 to 6,296 in 2015-16) in three seasons and the second such increase in the last decade. Fresno State also ranked fourth in the state of California and 84th nationally (out of 351 Division I programs) in average attendance during the 2015-16 season.
"I want to thank every one of our fans who came out and supported us this past season," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said. "Our guys fed off your energy and we're ready to build on this success. We are proud to play in front of the Red Wave and it is important for us to protect our homecourt. We take great pride in representing our community and we've already been hard at work preparing for next season."
During its 2015-16 home campaign, the Bulldogs went 16-2 to set a new single-season Save Mart Center record for most wins, including thrilling victories over San Diego State, UNLV, Air Force and Pepperdine, while playing 18 regular season home games.
Fresno State won 25 games overall for the first time since the 2000-01 season and its nine-game winning streak entering the NCAA Tournament was the third-longest then-active streak in the nation and the Bulldogs' longest such streak since 1982.
