Paul George wins Gold with Team USA in Rio

RIO DE JANIERO - Former Fresno State standout Paul George won a gold medal in his first Olympic Games as the United States' men's basketball team defeated Serbia 96-66 on Sunday afternoon in Rio.

"I'm just excited and happy," George said. "We're going home with this gold."

George recorded nine points and two rebounds in the gold medal game. He averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assist for Team USA during Olympic competition.Â

George, who played for Fresno State from 2008-10, scored over ten points in four of the eight Olympic tournament games. He scored 20 points in USA's match-up against Venezuela, which marked his highest single game scoring output.

"This is what it's for," George said of winning his first Olympic medal. "This is what we made this commitment for … all to come together to do this thing. It's amazing to go home with the best hardware you can get here."
