BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team fell 4-2 to CSU Bakersfield on Sunday night at the Main Soccer Field in Bakersfield, Calif. Junior Myra Delgadillo scored both of the Bulldogs' goals in the second half.
Â
The 'Dogs (0-2) held Bakersfield (1-1) without a shot for the first 26 minutes of the game, but CSUB scored in the 30th and 43rd minutes to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead. The Roadrunners continued to attack the net and scored once more before Delgadillo found the back of the net.
Â
"The reality is we didn't take advantage of early opportunities," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "Bakersfield's confidence was raised every time they scored and their final goal was the nail in the coffin. We've seen both extremes as far as opponents this weekend and I think that will better prepare us for conference play."
Â
Fresno State redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Best started her second game for the Bulldogs, recording one save, while sophomore Nicole Theroux came in at halftime to finish up the game up for the 'Dogs. Theroux also had one save.
Â
Delgadillo, along with Bulldog freshman Julia Glaser, led the 'Dogs with three shots each. As a team, CSUB owned advantages in shots (12-9) and shots on goal (6-4), while Fresno State had more opportunities from the corner (6-4).
Â
Fresno State will return to the pitch on Friday night when the Bulldogs host Pepperdine at 7 p.m. PT at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. Admission and parking are free for all Fresno State home matches.
