Eppright & Bulldogs eager for season opener

FRESNO, Calif. - With the start of the 2016 Fresno State volleyball season only three days away, count Bulldog senior libero Maggie Eppright as one of the most eager 'Dogs ready to get the new season started.
With the grind of the preseason wrapped up and the season inching closer, Eppright and the Bulldogs are ready for all their hard work in the offseason to be on full display.
"We have a lot of experience under our belt coming into the season," said Eppright. We have a lot of experience playing together and we are all real hungry this season. We have the confidence in ourselves that we can win a lot of games this year."
One of two four-year seniors on the team, Eppright is looked at to be a leader for the 'Dogs both on and off the court. With 96 matches and 351 career sets under her belt, Eppright is the most experienced player on the squad and according to head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell brings a competitive edge to the team.
"Maggie is a determined player and is ready to win this year," remarks Netherby-Sewell. "She has really been coming into her own this preseason and is comfortable with the way that she's playing. She is very confident and I use her as an example in the gym of what to do."
Helping the 'Dogs to 39 wins over the past three seasons, Eppright has learned what it is to be Bulldog tough over her three years at Fresno State, "Bulldog volleyball is bulldog tough. It is very competitive and gritty. It is all about outworking our opponent every chance we get the opportunity."
Netherby-Sewell echoes those sentiments about Bulldog volleyball and the type of team she wants to have every season.
"I want us to be mentally tough, physical and gritty team," said Netherby-Sewell. "Discipline is one of our core values so if we get beat doing it while still out working the other team they are just executing better. Every time they step out on the floor, I want the team to be disciplined, I want them to be gritty and give everyone a show. I want them to make themselves proud every time they step out on the floor. I think as long as we're doing those things the big goals will come."
Embodying those cornerstone characteristics of discipline, hard work and a fighting spirit, Eppright is ready to see the Bulldogs in action.
"I am most looking forward to competing with my teammates. It is such a fun group to play with and everyone has such a fire under them and we definitely have a sour taste in our mouth about a few matches last season. We have a lot of hungry players on this team and are ready to get back after it."
With the goal of winning the Mountain West championship in their mindset everyday, Eppright knows the 'Dogs can only achieve that if they take it one day at a time.
"There is a lot of focus right now on thinking not too far down the road toward the season and not looking back either, but taking each individual practice as an opportunity to get better and an opportunity to get mentally tougher. Each practice we can learn how to beat and outlast teams and stay in the present moment."
Eppright and the Bulldogs get the journey going on Friday as they open up the 2016 campaign at the Boston College Invitational taking on LIU Brooklyn at 4:30 p.m. PT.
