Bulldogs open dual season with 6-1 win at Sacramento State

Freshmen post 3-0 record in singles play.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In its first match of the dual season, Fresno State defeated Sacramento State 6-1 on Sunday at Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won the dual match before dropping its only point of the day.

Fielding three new doubles teams, the 'Dogs won two of its three matches. Galina Bykova and Emma Wilson clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-4 win over Sofia Wicker and Sofia Gulnova. Olivia Noble and Julianne Triebe gave Fresno State the early advantage with a 6-1 victory at No. 2.

With five new faces on this year's team, four new players moved into the Bulldogs' six singles spots. Freshmen Katerina Stloukalova at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), Julianne Triebe at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2) and Georgia Lawson at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) each picked up straight-set victories in their first dual match.

Playing in the back half of the Bulldogs' lineup a year ago, sophomore Emma Wilson moved up to No. 3 today and defeated Andie Mouzes, 6-3, 6-1. Playing primarily in doubles last year, fellow sophomore Olivia Noble moved into the lineup and also won her match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, over Sofia Gulnova.

Fresno State will next travel to Auburn, Ala., on Jan. 28 for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The 'Dogs will first face No. 15 Auburn on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. PT, before squaring off with either USC or Rice the following day.
