FAIRFAX, Calif. – Fresno State concluded the Cal-hosted Alister Mackenzie Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Meadow Club. The Bulldogs had four players post rounds under par, but it wasn't enough to propel them up the leaderboard as the 'Dogs finished ninth out of 16 teams.
"We played really solid today up and down the lineup," head coach Chad Spencer said. "I am really happy with the way Lane played this week. To shoot 65 in his first time in the lineup is amazing and not many have done that in Bulldog history. We just needed a little more consistency throughout the tournament, but overall I like what I saw out of this team."
Justin Avery was Fresno State's top finisher. After firing a 2-under-par 140 yesterday, the senior closed out the tournament with a solid 1-under-par 70 in the final round to finish 3-under-par and tied for 21st place overall.
Cody Riecks finished second for the Bulldogs after carding a team-best 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday. Riecks' final round was highlighted by a 2-under-par 33 on the front nine. The redshirt junior ended up tied for 31st place at even par.
Lane Pulliam came into the final round tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard after posting a 6-under-par 136 on Monday. The true freshman hit some bumps on Tuesday and shot a 7-over-par 78 in round three. Pulliam finished at 1-over-par and tied for 33rd.
Alex Lee and Michael Cliff shot 1-under-par 70 in the final round as both players ended the tournament tied for 53rd at 5-over-par.
Fresno State will be back on the course in a couple of weeks at the Pacific Invitational. It is a three-day event, Oct. 26-28, and will be played at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
