The Fresno State men’s basketball team will travel to play at Saint Mary’s College on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. PT in an exhibition contest to benefit the Northern California Fire Relief efforts.
FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State and Saint Mary's College men's basketball programs have come together and decided to play an exhibition game on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. PT in Moraga, as a way to help communities throughout Northern California rebuild after a series of devastating wildfires scorched the region in recent weeks.
Donations to North Bay Fire Relief, a victim's fund assisting those affected by recent wildfire tragedies in Northern California, will be accepted in the lobby before and during the game.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our men's basketball program and university to help as many people who have lost so much, as much as we can," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said. "It's a chance for us to give back to our state and try to help any way we can with people who have lost a big part of their lives and need our help right now."
The exhibition game is general admission with access to McKeon Pavilion granted by any donation made to the North Bay Fire Relief Fund. Donations can be made either at the door with cash or check or with a confirmation email from an online donation presented at the lobby as you enter the Pavilion.
Food and clothing donations will also be accepted by volunteers in the lobby. All seating will be general admission and there will be free unreserved parking on campus. Doors to the Pavilion will open one-hour before tip-off. If paying by check, please make checks payable to RCU Community Fund. Include "2017 North Bay Fire Relief" in memo area, along with which county (or "All") you'd like to support.
The NCAA recently issued a ruling allowing teams to add a third exhibition game this season for charitable purposes. Teams around the country have added games for various causes, including hurricane relief. The event is further supported by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The net proceeds from the game will be donated to North Bay Fire Relief via the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund Inc. (RCUCF), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Saint Mary's concessionaire Sodexo will also donate 10-percent of sales toward the relief fund and merchandise concessionaire Gameday Souvenirs will also donate 10-percent towards the NBFR.
This exhibition contest is just one way those connected with the Fresno State Athletics Department is helping wildfire relief efforts.
Former Fresno State lacrosse student-athlete and staff member Kasandra Brooks and her sister Kortney Morris, who are both originally from Redwood Valley, Calif., have created t-shirts to also raise money for victims of the horrific fires in Northern California. 100 percent of the t-shirt proceeds are being donated back to families affected by the fires through donations to The Community Foundation of Mendocino County, North Coast Opportunities and the RCUCF in order to help fire victims in Mendocino, Lake, Napa and Sonoma Counties. The NorCal-themed shirts can be purchased at www.etsy.com/shop/BasikShop.
Fresno State will also host two exhibition contests on Oct. 30 and Nov. 3 before opening the season at home for the third straight season. The Bulldogs tip off the regular season on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. PT versus UC Santa Cruz.
Season ticket packages and mini-plans are currently on sale through the Bulldog Ticket Office at the northeast corner of the Save Mart Center or by calling 559-278-DOGS (and then pressing "1").
