No. 5 Bulldogs ride past Delaware State, 11-5

The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team defeated Delaware State 11-5 in the final day of the Masterson Farms Invitational in Martin, Tenn. to round out its fall season.

MARTIN, Tenn. - The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team defeated Delaware State 11-5 in the final day of the Masterson Farms Invitational in Martin, Tenn. to round out its fall season.

Junior Hunt Seat rider Brooke Nelson earned an MOP in her Equitation on the Flat ride for her first Most Outstanding Player honors of the season.

Fresno State took charge in the Equitation over Fences event, securing a 3-1 lead in the arena. The Bulldog points came from Kylina Chalack, Alexandra Dirickson and Sierra Swaffar.

The Bulldogs led the charge in the Horsemanship event with a 3-1 victory over the Hornets. Alexis Miller, Taeya Harle and Rachel Williams each put points on the board for Fresno State. Harle secured her fifth Horsemanship victory of the season with a 73-71.5 ride over Delaware's Blayne Bell.

At halftime, Fresno State topped Delaware State 6-2.

The 'Dogs and Hornets were evenly matched in the Reining arena, finishing with a 2-2 tie at the completion of the event. Sophomore riders Paige Barton and Shea Gilson earned the points in their rides. Barton scored a 68 to Angelina Watt's 67 and the sophomore is now 5-1 in the Reining arena this season.

Fresno State scored three of its points in the Equitation on the Flat arena to defeat Delaware State 3-1 in the final event of the competition. Brooke Nelson, Chalack and Swaffar each came out on top in their rides. Nelson secured her first MOP honors of the season with an 86 to top Erin Gordon's 85.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Fri., Feb. 2 when they head to Springtown, Tex. to take on TCU.
