FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's basketball hosted Arizona State at Save Mart Center on Wednesday afternoon in its second game of the season. The Bulldogs held a slim lead early on but the Sun Devils were too much to handle as ASU ran away with an 81-49 victory over the 'Dogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out and took a 5-4 lead in the first 2:30 of the game, but Arizona State would take an 8-7 advantage about three minutes later and would not relinquish the lead. At the end of the first quarter, the Sun Devils led the 'Dogs by a score of 18-12.
Â
ASU's defense kept the Bulldogs in check during the second quarter as the 'Dogs were limited to 4-of-14 shooting from the field in the period. Arizona State would shoot 56.3 percent in the second and 16-of-31 overall in the first half as ASU took a 39-23 lead over Fresno State into the locker room.
Â
Arizona State pulled away in the third quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 28-10 in the period, and held a 67-33 lead at the end of three. The 'Dogs outscored ASU in the fourth quarter 16-14 but the Sun Devils' lead was too much to overcome as Arizona State won by a score of 81-49 over Fresno State. Candice White and Genna Ogier led the Bulldogs with 10 points apiece.

TEAM NOTES
Jaime White, Head Coach
On Arizona State's pressure...
"We let their pressure bother us and cause us to not run things that we wanted to run."
On the play of her offense...
"We had five less assists than the other night so I wasn't upset there. I was more focused on good offense, reversing the ball and being able to find some of our shots within our offense and stepping up and knocking those down."
Candice White, junior guard
On if Arizona State's pressure affected the team's play...
"That was part of it but as coach said I think we needed to run our offense a little bit longer to get easier shots, get to the paint because they would collapse every time and leave kick outs."
PLAYER NOTES
Genna Ogier – 10 points, 4 rebounds
NEXT UP
Fresno State will return to the Save Mart Center on Sunday as the Bulldogs host UC Riverside at 2 p.m. The game will stream live on the Mountain West Network and air on 790AM ESPN2.
