Fresno State falls to UC Riverside, 68-56

The Bulldogs will hit the road for the first time this season as they clash with UT Arlington on Nov. 24.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State hosted UC Riverside in its third game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Save Mart Center. Both teams struggled on the offensive end to start the game but the Highlanders would eventually find their touch in a 68-56 victory over the Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams came out cold to open the game. In the first quarter, Fresno State shot 5-of-16 from the field while UC Riverside was 6-of-16. Four Bulldogs scored in the period but the Highlanders held a 13-11 advantage heading into the second.

The 'Dogs continued to struggle on offense in the second quarter as they converted on 3-of-19 shots from the field. UC Riverside countered by shooting 50 percent from the floor but only led 29-23 at the half. Breanne Knishka led the way for the Bulldogs with seven points at the break, including 2-of-4 from 3.

Fresno State found an offensive groove in the third quarter as the Bulldogs shot 6-of-11 from the floor. However, UCR stayed hot and shot 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the field. The teams were evenly matched in the period at 25-25 but the Highlanders took a 54-48 lead into the fourth.

The Highlanders built their lead up to 64-50 as they opened the quarter on a 10-2. Fresno State went 3-of-15 in the final 10 minutes while UC Riverside shot 6-of-12 and finished at 50 percent (29-of-58) for the game. The Highlanders went on to win by a score of 68-56 over the 'Dogs for their first win of the season. Cavey, Knishka and White all finished in double figures for Fresno State.
