Swimmers headed to Illinois to compete in TYR Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State's swimmers will compete Friday through Sunday at the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.

The Bulldogs are one of nine schools that will be competing in the Invitational, which will feature both men's and women's swimming and diving and a total of 50 events. The 'Dogs will just be competing in swimming events after the team's divers were in action last weekend at the Trojan Diving invitational.

The field is headlined by a pair of Big 10 schools in host Northwestern and Michigan State. Ohio, Illinois-Chicago, Grand Canyon, St. Louis University, and Div. II Truman State are other schools that will be swimming while Illinois State will be part of the meet in diving only.

The Fresno State swimmers last competed against Fresno Pacific on Nov. 4, beating the Sunbirds 185-115. The Bulldogs won eight races against FPU, including both team relays (200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay).

Junior Ossiana McReed won both the 50 and 100 Free in the meet and junior Ugne Mazutaityte won both the 100 and 200 Back. Manuela Mendolicchio placed first in the 200 Breast Kimberly Harbert won the 200 Fly to lead the 'Dogs to their second dual win of the season.

The TYR Invitational begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. Central Time (7 a.m. Pacific) with prelims. All three days of the meet will have prelims at that time while finals will begin at 5 p.m. CT Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
