No. 5 Fresno State falls to No. 10 UTM at Masterson Farms Invitational, 11-5

The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 10 UT-Martin 11-5 on day one of the Masterson Farms Invitational in Martin, Tenn. on Thursday.
MARTIN, Tenn. – The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 10 UT-Martin 11-5 on day one of the Masterson Farms Invitational in Martin, Tenn. on Thursday.
Junior Western rider Taeya Harle (Horsemanship) and senior Hunt Seat rider Sierra Swaffar (Equitation on the Flat) each earned MOP honors for their rides.
The Bulldogs and Skyhawks each earned a pair of points in the fences event at the start of today's competition. Senior Paige Pastorino secured the first point for Fresno State with a 75-40 victory over UTM's Monika Zoromski. Swaffar locked in the second Bulldog point in the event with a 68-65 win over UTM's Lindsay Anderson. Pastorino and Swaffar each tallied their third fences victory of the season.
UT-Martin gained momentum in the horsemanship arena, outscoring Fresno State 3-1. The solo horsemanship point for the Bulldogs came from Harle in a 73-71.5 victory over UTM's Jade Bleskey.
The Skyhawks owned a 5-3 advantage over the Bulldogs at the afternoon intermission.
Fresno State and UTM tied, 2-2, for the second time of the day in the Equitation on the Flat arena. Swaffar recorded the first point in the event for the 'Dogs with an 85-75 victory over Abbie Hopkins. Junior Brooke Nelson earned the second Bulldog point after scoring an 81 to Claire Ottinger's 67.
UT-Martin led 7-5 before going into the final event of the afternoon.
The Skyhawks swept the Bulldogs in the reining event to seal an 11-5 win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on day two of the Masterson Farms Invitational tomorrow against No. 4 SMU. The first ride is slated to being at 8 a.m. PT.
