FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball program announced the addition of Reagan Leonard to its upcoming 2017 roster. Leonard is set to debut as a Bulldog freshman during the 2017-18 academic year.
A 5-7 libero/defensive specialist from Glendale, Ariz., Leonard will join the 'Dogs this fall after being a three-year letter winner at Centennial High School. An intended forensics major at Fresno State, Leonard helped lead the Coyotes to a 28-9 mark as a senior in 2016 and the Conference 5A championship as Centennial topped Sunnyslope High School in the championship game on Nov. 9 in four sets. She totaled 481 digs as a senior and finished with 1,486 career digs in her prep career.
"I came across Reagan while looking for another player in another position," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell. "I ended up paying no attention to the prospect on my list and couldn't stop watching her. She has such a natural instinct on defense and has great reading ability. She was calm which I liked best and made defense look easy."
As a junior in 2015, Leonard earned Team MVP honors and was named All-District after totaling 269 digs and 157 kills helping the Coyotes finish 19-7 on the season. In her first year on varsity as a sophomore in 2014, Leonard earned Arizona Second-Team All-State honors posting an astounding 736 digs for a 7.3 digs per set. A standout in the classroom as well, Leonard was a three-time Academic Letter Award winner and was a member of the honor roll eight times.
"She took a leadership role at camp and is a high-character young woman. She is used to playing with and against good players, so the transition to Mountain West play should be easy for her. She will put pressure on our current liberos right away when she arrives on campus. She is another great get for the Bulldogs," added Netherby-Sewell.
A member of the Revolution Volleyball Academy club team for three years, she has helped lead the Revolution to the junior nationals multiple times. "I really enjoyed the coaching staff, team and facilities at Fresno State," said Leonard on why she joined the Bulldogs.
Leonard joins fall signees Sydney Lotsumo and junior college transfer Karina Felipe, who joined the Bulldogs in January, to additions to the 2017 roster.
