Mazutaityte shatters school record at MW Championships

FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State women's swim and dive team had another record breaking day at the 2017 Mountain West Championships. The Bulldogs sit in 10th place after day three.
"Esme swam great for us today," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "She swam in back-to-back events which is extremely difficult. Ugne set a new Fresno State record in the 100 Backstroke, we are so happy for her. Today was pretty good but tomorrow we'll have all of our best events so we're going to come back out and fight."
The Fresno State 400 IM Relay team of Ugne Mazutaityte, Manuela Mendolicchio, Esme Gullick and Katelin Britton took eighth place for the Bulldogs with a time of 3:43.27.
Senior Esme Gullick jumped right back in the pool after the relay to compete in the 400 IM final. The senior took seventh place (4:20.24) putting a big dent in the score board for Fresno State.
Day three was highlighted by Ugne Mazutaityte shattering the Fresno State record for the 100 Backstroke. The sophomore took fourth place in the final breaking the Fresno State record that she had previously set in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.88.
Manuela Mendolicchio led the Bulldogs in the 100 Breaststroke with a 13th place finish and a final time of 1:03.43.
The Bulldogs were kept off the board in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle.
Day fourÂ
The fourth day of competition will feature the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke and Platform.
Preliminaries for these events will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT followed by finals at 4:30 p.m. PT.
