Washington State slips past Bulldogs in Pullman

Fresno State dropped its second consecutive match on its current three-match road trip.
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Fresno State women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 match at Washington State on Saturday afternoon.

Behind pair of 6-2 results in doubles play, the Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the dual match. Katerina Sloukalova leveled the match at 1-1, defeating Barbora Michalkova 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot. The Courgars responded with a win at No. 2 as Guzal Yusupova topped Galina Bykova, 6-4, 6-1.

Julianne Triebe and Emma Wilson gave Fresno State the lead, and moved them within one point of clinching the dual match with straight-set wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. The Cougars continued the back-and-forth trend in the match as they responded at the No. 6 position as with a 6-3, 6-3 win from Lejla Colic over Georgia Lawson.

After falling behind a set at No. 5 to Melissa Ates, Ndindi Ndunda won the second, 6-4, putting the result of the dual match on a decisive third set. The freshman claimed the first point but quickly fell behind 4-1. After fighting back to 4-3, Ates secured the match with consecutive points to win the third set, 6-3.

Fresno State will travel to Eastern Washington tomorrow. First serve in Cheney, Wash., is set for 10 a.m. PT.
