'Dogs top Aztecs 59-51 on the road

Faz Davalos posts 23 points and 19 rebounds for 16th double-double of the season.
SAN DIEGO – Fresno State won its third game in its last four as outings as the Bulldogs defeated San Diego State, 59-51, on Saturday at Viejas Arena. It was seventh win away from home for the 'Dogs this season.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Bego Faz Davalos who posted 23 points and 19 rebounds to go five blocks and two steals. It was the third time this season that the center has recorded 19 rebounds which ties a career high. Senior forward Kendra Martin also came up big for Fresno State, pouring in a career-high 12 points. The Aztecs were paced by junior McKynzie Fort who scored 14 points, two shy of her average which ranks second in the Mountain West.
Fresno State raced out to a quick 7-0 advantage, but the game remained tight through the opening quarter as SDSU knocked down 4-of-7 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes. The Aztecs then went inside in the second quarter, taking their first lead of the game at 27-26 on a layup from Ariell Bostick with 6:20 remaining in the half. The Bulldogs defense from that point locked down the remainder of the half, forcing SDSU to go 1-of-10 from the floor as they went on an 8-2 spurt to push their lead to 35-29.
Fresno State extended its advantage to nine a minute into the third, but turnovers then hit the Bulldogs. What could have been a double-digit lead with the Aztecs unable to find the bottom of the net, soon turned into a disappearing advantage when they home the home team did. A 3-pointer by Lexy Thorderson started a 7-0 swing midway through the period as the Aztecs pulled within two at 40-38.
The Bulldogs answered, though, with an 11-3 stretch that Kendra Martin punctuated with a 3-pointer on the left wing to give Fresno State its largest lead of the day at 51-41 with 5:49 to play. The Aztecs were able to pull their deficit back to six late the in quarter with a pair of 3's from Kymberly Ellison, but that was as close as they would get.
How It Happened: Leading 40-38 with 3:28 remaining in the third quarter, Fresno State went on an 11-3 run during the next seven-plus minutes to put the game away. A 3-pointer by Martin with 5:49 on the clock provided the 'Dogs with a 10-point cushion.
