Bulldogs await postseason decision after MW Tourney run ends in semis

The Fresno State men’s basketball team, who has won eight games against Top 100 RPI teams this season, will find out in the coming days whether the Bulldogs will play in a postseason tournament.
LAS VEGAS --- The fourth-seeded Fresno State men's basketball team lost 83-72 to the top-seeded Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Fresno State (20-12) will be a serious candidate for a NIT bid, which will be announced on Sunday night between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. PT during a selection show on ESPNU. Fresno State last played in the NIT back in 2007.

How it happened: Fresno State jumped out to a 32-21 lead at halftime, but the Nevada Wolf Pack caught fire in the second half.

While Fresno State had a 40-31 advantage shortly after halftime, Nevada answered with a 16-0 run to take a 47-40 lead on the Bulldogs and the Pack never lost the lead. Nevada scored 62 second-half points and shot 79.2 percent from the field (19-for-24) after halftime.

Fresno State redshirt sophomore guard Deshon Taylor scored a team-high 21 points for his 15th straight game with at least 15 points. Bulldogs' senior guard/forward Paul Watson added 19 points with eight rebounds and freshman Bryson Williams posted 16 points and eight rebounds.Â

Fresno State's defense had limited Nevada to 23.3 percent from the floor (7-for-30) in the first half before the offensive onslaught.

The Bulldogs committed 16 turnovers and managed just six 3-pointers to Nevada's 11 triples.

Marcus Marshall scored a game-high 28 points and Cameron Oliver chipped in 27 points for the Wolf Pack, who also got a double-double from Jordan Caroline (10 points/10 rebounds).
