STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 6-ranked Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 2 Oklahoma State, 14-5, at Totusek Arena in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday to cap off its regular season.
"Being on the road in our format is always tough and OSU is known to be tough at home," Fresno State head coach Eric Hubbard said. "We came up just short a few times today and other times we had some major mistakes."
The Bulldogs (7-6) began the competition down early, being outscored by the Cowboys 4-1 in equitation over fences and getting their lone point from junior Paige Pastorino, pushing her streak to three wins in a row.
The 'Dogs began to pick up the pace in reining, getting points from senior Taylor Brown and junior Taylor Dixon. In equitation on the flat, the Bulldogs were able to garner points from the rides of senior Genna Fogelberg and junior Sierra Swaffar.
Fogelberg earned her first Most Outstanding Player accolade in her second ride of the season, while Brown improved her reining record to 10-3 on the year, scoring a point in her last five rides in the event. Brown proved to be a dominating force throughout the season, with an impressive record of 19-7 with 12 Most Outstanding Player honors.
Next up, the 'Dogs will ride in the United Equestrian Conference Championships taking place in Delaware on March 24-25. Following, will be the National Equestrian Association Championships located in Waco, Texas on April 13-15.
"A lot has changed and I feel we are stronger than we were in the fall," said Hubbard. "A lot of really positive things have come together and we are really excited for postseason."
