Fresno State wins 4-3 thriller in Hawai’i

Bykova responds from 0-6 first set to claim winning point for ‘Dogs.
HONOLULU – In its first of two matches in Hawai'i this week, Fresno State won its first 4-3 match of the season defeating Gonzaga on Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex. It was Gonzaga's first loss of the year.
Fresno State fell behind in doubles play with a 6-2 defeat on Court 1, but the 'Dogs quickly drew level and claimed the point behind wins from Olivia Noble and Katerina Stloukalova (6-1), and Juliane Triebe and Galina Bykova (6-2). Gonzaga grabbed a 2-1 lead to start singles play with straight-set wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions.
Triebe then pulled Fresno State even at 2-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat of Graciela Rosas on Court 4. Stloukalova pushed the 'Dogs ahead at No. 1 with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Nevada Apollo. Gonzaga responded by tying the match on Court 6 as Domonique Garley outlasted Georgia Lawson in three sets.
With the match coming down to Court 3, Bykova trailed after dropping the opening set 6-0. The senior then responded with a 7-5 second-set win before clinching the match 6-2 in the final set.
Fresno State will be back on the courts at the UH Tennis Complex on Saturday to face Hawai'i.
