'Dogs wrap up NCAA Zone E Diving Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Three Fresno State divers competed in the 2017 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the Northern Arizona University Aquatic and Tennis Complex in Flagstaff, Ariz., Monday through Wednesday.
Shelbie Holden, Kelli Funk and Serena Sedillo represented Fresno State on all three boards.
This is the first time since the program was reinstated in 2008 that Fresno State has had three divers qualify for Zones. Â
The top 18 scorers from each preliminary round advanced to the finals. The number of automatic qualification for NCAA Championships varies for each board, and can be seen below.
3-Meter (Day 1)
Senior Shelbie Holden led the Bulldogs on the 3-Meter, finishing 25th with a score of 263.45. Serena Sedillo finished 38th (245.05) and Kelli Funk finished 50th (214.55).
1-Meter (Day 2)
Shelbie Holden, who has qualified for Zones three times in her career, also led Fresno State on the 1-Meter posting a score of 263.45, she finished 25th.
Serena Sedillo finished 41st (215.55) and Kelli Funk followed closely behind in 50th (191.80).
Platform (Day 3)
Serena Sedillo qualified for the finals after taking 10th place in the preliminaries. The freshman took 12th place on Platform with a score of 444.55, marking the highest finish in the championships for the Bulldogs and narrowly missing the cutoff for NCAA National Championships.
Kelli Funk also qualified for the finals after finishing 16th in the preliminaries. The sophomore took 18th in the finals with a score of 401.35.
Shelbie Holden finished 20th on Platform (205.00).
The field of this year's competition had the highest caliber of athletes from the West Region in 90 combined men's and women's divers. A total of 22 schools from the Pac-12, Mountain West, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Western Athletic Conference.
