'Dogs finish record-breaking season Friday night

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team fell to Cal 16-14, in a hard fought game on Senior Night.
The Bulldogs finish with the best record in Fresno State lacrosse program history, 9-7.
"I'm really proud of the way our team played all season," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "It's really hard to finish with a loss like this when we were so close to making MPSF playoffs this season. We played with a lot of heart tonight, but sometimes games just don't go your way. Our defense played outstanding in tonight's game. This program has come so far over the last four years that these seniors have been here, and this program made huge strides forward this season. I'm really looking forward to next season to continue the growth of this program."
Senior Caroline Dineen-Carlson led the Bulldogs with four goals. Sarah Bloise and Marina Mayo scored three goals each. Nicole Ortlieb scored two goals. Kayla Galet and Ryleigh Bone recorded one goal apiece to round out scoring for Fresno State.
'Dogs kept it close in the first half
Cal opened up the game scoring back-to-back goals, to take a 2-0 lead.
Fresno State answered with back-to-back goals from Caroline Dineen-Carlson and Sarah Bloise to tie the game 2-2.
The Golden Bears scored another set of back-to-back goals with 19:12 left in the half, to retake the lead 4-2.
Caroline Dineen-Carlson scored her second goal of the night with 17:31 left in the half, to put the Bulldogs within one 4-3.
Cal increased its lead to 6-3 when they scored back-to-back goals with 11:24 left in the half.
Marina Mayo found the back of the net with 8:53 left in the half to put the Bulldogs within two.
The Golden Bears answered back with two quick goals, to increase their lead 8-4.
Fresno State cut the deficit in half when Kayla Galet and Marina Mayo scored back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs.
The two teams traded goals to end the half, making the score 9-7 at halftime.
'Dogs fight until the clock runs out
Fresno State and Cal traded goals to open up the second half.
The Golden Bears went on a 3-0 with 25:05 left in the game to take their largest lead of the night 12-8.
Fresno State answered with a 6-0 lead, featuring back-to-back goals from Caroline Dineen-Carlson, to take the lead 14-13 with 13:17 left in the game. The Bulldogs' defense held the Golden Bears scoreless for nine minutes.
Cal finished the game on a 3-0 run to retake the lead and secure the win with seven minutes left in the game.
In the Cage
Freshman Laurel Maunder played all 60 minutes for the Bulldogs. Maunder recorded 12 saves on the night.
Maunder finishes the season with 136 saves.

As a team, Fresno State led in made free position shots (5-0), saves (12-8), caused turnovers (14-8) and had fewer turnovers than Cal.
