The Bulldogs’ senior leader earns individual bid to NCAA regional play and all-conference honors on the same day
FRESNO, Calif. – Shortly before 9 a.m. PT on Thursday morning, Fresno State senior Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir learned that she was selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals – Albuquerque site – in front of teammates and administration while watching the selection show live on the Golf Channel, approximately four hours later she was named an all-conference selection by the Mountain West.
"I was super happy when I saw my name on the screen," said Bjorgvinsdottir. "I have been so close for the last three years, so this was extra special to finally make it my last year. I'm really excited for this opportunity to play with the top ranked teams and individuals in the NCAA."
It is Bjorgvinsdottir's first bid for postseason play, despite winning the Mountain West individual title in 2014, tallying five top 20's in 2015 and posting a 73.32 scoring average in 2016.
The all-MW nod was her second career. Bjorgvinsdottir was named a second-team All-MW selection on Thursday, as well as in 2014 as a freshman.
The Iceland native is coming off a tie for ninth place at the Mountain West Championship, April 21-23. It was her third top 10 finish in four years at the annual conference event. For the 2016-17 season, she owned a 73.43 scoring average and had seven top 20 finishes, including three top 10 finishes.
