'Dogs stun Gauchos in come-from-behind win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team defeated UCSB 2-1 in a come-from-behind win. The Bulldogs shock the Gauchos with two goals in the last five minutes of the match to steal the win on the road.
"I am so proud of our team for never giving up," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "We had a terrible first half, and we turned it around and played our way in the second half. I think the most composed we played was in the final five minutes. We had a remarkable turnaround. It was a total team effort and team win."
This marks Fresno State's first win over UCSB since 2001. Â

The 'Dogs improve to 4-2-1 on the season, and 2-1-1 on the road.

Marina Kerrache, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Myra Delgadillo, Melissa Ellis, Kaitlyn Crooker, Anna Crawford, Sara Jo Ciapponi, Carly Bracken and Angie Weiner led the charge for Fresno State with Nicole Theroux in the goal. Â

FIRST HALF – The Gauchos dominated the first 45 minutes of the match. Amanda Ball scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute, putting UCSB up 1-0. The Gauchos defense didn't allow the 'Dogs to take a shot during the first half. At the end of the first half, UCSB owned the advantage in shots (7-0), shots on goal (5-0) and corners (7-0). Theroux recorded four saves during the half.

SECOND HALF – Fresno State's offense kicked into gear in the second half. The 'Dogs recorded their first corner of the game in the 47th minute, and quickly recorded their second in the 51st minute. Maria Gomez recorded the 'Dogs first shot of the match in the 56th minute.

UCSB attempted to extend its lead with a shot on goal in the 59th minute but Theroux recorded her fifth save of the match. Glaser responded with a shot on goal for the 'Dogs in the 74th minute, but the Gauchos goalie recorded her first save of the contest, keeping the score 1-0.

Olivia Muhrbeck subbed in for Fresno State in the 80th minute. She scored her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute to tie the match 1-1, the goal was assisted by Glaser.

Crooker scored the winning goal for the 'Dogs in the 87th minute, off an assist from Muhbeck. The Fresno State defense didn't let UCSB attempt a shot for the remainder of the match, locking in the win.

In the second half, the 'Dogs owned the advantage in shots (6-2), shots on goal (3-1) and corners (3-0). Each team recorded one save in the half.

With a goal and an assist, Muhrbeck recorded a career-high three points in a single-game.
