FRESNO, Calif. – With Fresno State women's water polo set to begin its inaugural season in 2017-18, head coach Natalie Benson has revealed the program's first schedule. The Bulldogs' slate begins in early November as the team will compete in the Collegiate Cup, a preseason tournament that will be held at Clovis West High School on Nov. 4 and the Fresno State Aquatics Center Nov. 5.
"We have all waited anxiously for the start of this program, which includes the athletes reporting to campus, classes beginning and the start of training," Benson said. "The announcement of our competition schedule is another piece that shows that we are just months away from the first season in program history. Our first season will be a challenge on many levels, but we want to show that we are a serious program with high benchmarks, and that we are here to compete."
The non-conference schedule includes tournaments at UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 20-21), California (Jan. 27-28), UC Davis (Feb. 17-18) and Arizona State (March 10-11). The 'Dogs will also take on Fresno Pacific (Feb. 9) and UC San Diego (March 31) at home.
As far as conference play goes, Fresno State will be competing in the Golden Coast Conference in its inaugural season. The Bulldogs will host Loyola Marymount (March 3), Azusa Pacific (March 16), Santa Clara (March 28) and Concordia University, Irvine (April 6). The 'Dogs will travel to San Diego State (April 8), Pacific (April 14) and California Baptist (April 21).
The 2018 Golden Coast Conference Tournament is scheduled for April 27-29 with the host site to be determined.
The NCAA Championships (May 11-13) will be held in Los Angeles and hosted by the University of Southern California.
