Bulldogs earn Senior Day win over Pacific
3/28/2026 3:42:00 PM | Water Polo
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State water polo team used a big third quarter and a standout performance from Riaan Bryant to earn a 13-10 Golden Coast Conference win over No. 20 Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
The Bulldogs broke open a tight match with six goals in the third period and got 13 saves from Katelyn Mobley in the cage to improve to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in GCC play.
How it Happened
Pacific struck first at the 6:33 mark of the opening quarter, but Fresno State answered less than a minute later when Kira Anderson found the back of the cage to even the score. After the Tigers reclaimed the lead, the Bulldogs responded again as Charley Stephens scored off an assist from Susanna Martinez to make it 2-2.
Fresno State grabbed its first lead of the afternoon with 1:17 left in the first quarter when Riaan Bryant converted off another assist from Martinez. Pacific answered with a penalty-shot goal in the closing seconds, sending the match into the second quarter tied 3-3.
The Bulldogs began to create separation in the second. Anderson scored her second goal of the day at 6:38, and Stephens followed just over a minute later to push Fresno State in front by two. Pacific added an exclusion goal late in the period, but Fresno State carried a 5-4 lead into halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter.
Bryant opened the second-half scoring on an exclusion opportunity, and Hailey Andress added another goal to stretch the lead. After Pacific cut into the margin, Stephens scored off a Martinez assist, and Bryant answered again just 23 seconds after a Pacific goal to keep momentum on Fresno State's side.
The Bulldogs kept pouring it on from there. Martinez scored with 1:02 left in the third off a Bryant assist, and Bryant added another goal with 22 seconds remaining as Fresno State erupted for six third-quarter goals and took an 11-7 advantage into the final period.
Fresno State added to its cushion early in the fourth when Stephens scored just 16 seconds into the quarter, and Bryant struck again at the 5:13 mark off an assist from Megan Cranley to make it 13-7. Pacific scored three of the final four goals of the match, but the Bulldogs' lead was too much to overcome as Fresno State closed out the 13-10 win.
