No. 9 Fresno State drops close contest to No. 2 Georgia

The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team dropped its final home meet of the fall in nail-biting fashion falling to No.2 Georgia, 10-8.
FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team dropped its final home meet of the fall in nail-biting fashion falling to No.2 Georgia, 10-8.
"Today was a tough loss to a very good Georgia team," said head coach Eric Hubbard. " We fought a good fight to the end and I am proud of Sierra Swaffer for her MOP's."
 
Senior hunt seat rider Sierra Swaffar led the way for the Bulldogs on the afternoon earning two MOPs in the hunt seat events.
 
Fresno State saw an early advantage in the equitation on the flat arena, owning a 2-1 win over Georgia. Alexandra Dirickson and Swaffar tallied the pair of points for the 'Dogs, while Natalie Wendt and Kylina Chalack earned tie scores in their contests.
 
UGA gained momentum in the equitation over fences event, outscoring Fresno State 3-2. The two Bulldog points came from Chalack and Swaffar.
 
Fresno State and Georgia were tied 4-4 at the start of the western events.
 
Georgia continued their run in the reining arena with a 3-2 lead over Fresno State. Paige Barton and Shea Gilson earned the two Bulldog points in the reining event.
 
Heading into the final event of the afternoon, UGA owned a 7-6 advantage over Fresno State.
 
Fresno State fought back in the horsemanship arena, but came up short with a 3-2 loss. Alexis Miller tied the score at 7-7 after outscoring Georgia's Sammie Johnson 74.5-73.5. Following Miller's ride, UGA put up two points to take a 9-7 lead over Fresno State.
Senior Taylor Dixon added another point for the 'Dogs with a 77.5-74.5 victory over Georgia's Payton Anderson. The 'Dogs came up short from securing the tie when UGA's Bailey Anderson outscored Julia Kelly with an impressive 80.5 ride.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sat., Oct. 21 traveling to South Dakota State for a matchup with the Jackrabbits in Brookings, S.D.
