‘Dogs defeat New Mexico, fall to SDSU and CSU in quad meet

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In a pre-conference meet featuring four of the 10 Mountain West swimming & diving programs, Fresno State earned a win over New Mexico while falling to host San Diego State and Colorado State on Monday at the Aztec Aquaplex.
The 'Dogs topped the Lobos by a 153.50-146.50 scored while losing to San Diego State 179.0-121.0 and Colorado State 183.0-117.0. The Rams defeated all three of their opponents while SDSU went 2-1 and UNM was 0-3.

The 'Dogs topped the Lobos by a 153.50-146.50 scored while losing to San Diego State 179.0-121.0 and Colorado State 183.0-117.0. The Rams defeated all three of their opponents while SDSU went 2-1 and UNM was 0-3.
Swimming Highlights
- Manuela Mendolicchio picked up a win in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing first in the field of 16 competitors and winning by more than three seconds with a time of 2:15.18. Lucy Davies was third in the 200 Breast, finishing ahead of the top swimmers from both San Diego State and New Mexico. Mendolicchio also finished third in the 100 Breast, ahead of the top New Mexico swimmer.
- Ugne Mazutaityte placed second in both the 100 and 200 Backstroke. Colorado State's Toni Thomas won both events, but Mazutaityte was second in both touching ahead of any SDSU or UNM swimmers in each race. Stephanie Bartel placed fifth overall in the 200 Back and was eighth in the 100.
- Kimberly Harbert led the 'Dogs in the Butterfly events, placing second in the 100 Fly in a field of 15 in 57.03. Fresno State had three of the top five finishers in the 200 Fly, as Harbert finished third while Zofia Niemczak was fourth and Gabbie Libang touched fifth. Niemczak was third in the 100 Fly and placed third in the 400 IM, ahead of the top Colorado State finisher, while Davies was sixth.
- Emily Niles led the 'Dogs in the distance events, placing fifth in both the 500 Free and the 1000 Free while Vanessa Dugan had a sixth-place finish in the 1000. In the sprint events, Osianna Mcreed led Fresno State in taking fifth in both the 50 Free and 100 Free.
- In the relay events, the top Fresno State team of Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Niemczak, and McReed finished fourth in the 200 Medley Relay. The Bulldog 'A' team also placed fourth in the 400 Free Relay.
Diving Highlights
- Irina Nikolaeva placed second on both boards, earning the second highest score in a field of 16 in both events.
- Nikolaeva placed second on 3-meter, scoring 300.30, while teammate Kelli Funk took fifth on the board. The pair finished ahead of all New Mexico and Colorado State divers as the 'Dogs and San Diego State had the top five in the event.
- On 1-meter, Nikolaeva also finished behind only SDSU's Alexandra Caplan with a score of 286.85 while Funk placed 11th.
- Bulldog sophomore Serena Sedillo missed the meet due to injury.

What's Next
- The Bulldog divers will compete at the Bruin Diving Invitational Friday-Sunday at UCLA. The swimmers will remain in San Diego and face the University of San Diego in a dual at noon Saturday.
