COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading Fresno State to wins over the top two teams in the preseason MW poll, sophomore libero Reagan Leonard was named MW Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Â
Leonard earned the honor for the second time this season, as she was also named MW Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 27 after the first week of the 2018 season. She is the first Bulldog to earn the honor twice in a season since former Bulldog and current assistant coach Maggie  Eppright did so in 2016.
Â
Leonard led the Bulldogs defensively with 5.00 digs per set as Fresno State earned 3-1 wins over Wyoming and defending MW champion Colorado State. She had a match-high 22 digs against Colorado State, recording her eighth 20+ dig match of the season, and had 18 digs against Wyoming. Leonard also had a team-high 35 serve receptions over the two matches without a single receiving error.
Â
Leonard helped the 'Dogs hold two of the top three offensive teams in the conference to a combined .172 hitting percentage; Wyoming hit just .173 after entering the match hitting .259 on the season and Colorado State hit .170 after entering hitting .263. Â
Â
In addition to her defensive totals, Leonard also had a career-high nine assists against Wyoming to narrowly miss her first career double-double. She added four assists against Colorado State and had one service ace in each match.
Â
For the season Leonard continues to lead the MW averaging 4.92 digs per set, an average that would be the second best in a season in program history. The Bulldogs have started 3-0 in the MW for the first time and are the lone remaining unbeaten team in conference play.
