FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's water polo team will host seven matches, during the upcoming 2019 season, which is set to begin on Nov. 18, second-year head coach Natalie Benson announced. The Bulldogs will host four non-conference opponents, and three Golden Coast Conference games in the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
Even when the 'Dogs are on the road throughout the season, they won't be far from home with 20 of their away games being played in California.
"As we approach our second season of play, we again look forward to the challenge of high-level, quality competition," said Benson. "Our program is growing, and it is an exciting process that we have the opportunity to be a part of. In just one year, we have made some incredible strides both as individuals and as a group, and we can use many lessons from last season to carry with us through this year. Our Bulldogs look forward to representing the Valley!"
Prior to the start of the season, Fresno State will test the waters at the UC Davis Mini Invitational on Nov. 18, facing both UC Davis and San Jose State.
The 'Dogs will open their season in January with a pair of tournaments, starting with the UCSB Invitational (Jan. 19-20) and the Cal Cup (Jan. 26-27). February brings two more tournaments for the 'Dogs. They are set to play in the UCLA Mini Invitational (Feb. 2) and the Tina Finali Tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran (Feb. 23-24). Fresno State will play its last tournament of the season March 2-3, competing in the Michigan Invitational.
The Red Wave will be able to take its first look at the 2019 team during its four-game homestand. Fresno State will finish non-conference play hosting George Washington (March 13), Michigan (March 15) and Harvard (March 19). The 'Dogs will close out the homestand with their conference opener against Pacific (March 23).
Fresno State will continue GCC play with road games against Azusa Pacific (March 29) and Loyola Marymount (March 30), before returning home to host San Diego State (April 5) and Cal Baptist (April 6). The 'Dogs will round out the regular season back-to-back road games, traveling to Santa Clara (April 14) and Concordia (April 19).
Fresno State will host the 2018 Golden Coast Conference Tournament April 26-28 in the Aquatics Center.
