Seven Days, Seven Seniors: Emily Dzubak

FRESNO, Calif. – With seven Bulldog seniors set to play their final home match on Monday, Nov. 19, gobulldogs.com will chat with one senior each day throughout the week leading up to the home finale against Air Force. Senior Day will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 17, when the 'Dogs host Nevada at 1 p.m.
Emily Dzubak joined the program as a junior after transferring from American River College in Sacramento. A central valley native from Stockton, Dzubak starred at Lincoln HS before playing two seasons at ARC, earning two first team All-Big 8 Conference selections after leading the conference in digs in both 2015 and 2016.
In her first season with the Bulldogs in 2017, Dzubak played in 22 matches with six starts. She totaled 103 digs with a season-high 14 digs in a MW match at Utah State. She had multiple digs in 18 matches and was also fourth on the team in serve receptions.
As a senior Dzubak has been starter for the Bulldogs throughout MW play. She has played in all but one set in Fresno State's 15 conference matches, ranking third on the team with 126 digs and 2.25 digs per set and leading the team with a .963 serve percentage in league play.
Dzubak had a Fresno State career-high 19 digs on Oct. 20 at San Jose State and has tallied double-digit dig totals in four of the last seven matches, helping Fresno State clinch at least second place in the MW.
Q: How would you describe your senior season and the success the team has had?
A: I think this season has been a complete whirlwind. We have beyond exceeded my expectations. I have been blessed to get to know my teammates on a deeper level that has allowed us to make connections and trust in one another to believe we can have as successful a season as possible.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Bulldog?
A: I think my most memorable moment as a Bulldog is our win over Colorado State this year, for more than what people may think. The win was the start for our record season. We played for each other in a way that I had never experienced before and we dominated a team that we had not beaten in years. It was amazing!
Q: How would you describe this senior class?
A: This senior class is unlike any group I have been a part of. We are all extremely unique. I have a bond with each of them that I will cherish for the rest of my life and am happy to be finishing out the season with them!
Q: What will you miss most about Fresno State?
A: The thing I will miss most about Fresno State is the athletic community. The community here is so supportive and unlike any other fan base in the Mountain West. It truly has been an honor playing here for two years and it is something I will always cherish.
Q: What has the support of the university, coaches and staff, and the Red Wave fans meant to you?
A: Like I said before, the community here is unbelievable. Red Wave has been an immense part of our success this season and you all truly mean so much to us! The coaching staff has been so influential on and off the court, they work tirelessly to make sure we are successful in our athletic and personal lives.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I plan to move back to Sacramento to get a job in the criminology field. Along with working for the state, I plan to start my own coaching career with my junior college and coaching club. I am excited for what the future holds and will certainly miss Fresno State and all the lifelong friendships I have made!
