Program-record four Bulldogs earn All-MW honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A program-record four Fresno State volleyball players earned All-Mountain West honors announced by the conference on Monday. Madelyn Halteman, Taylor Slover, and Haile Watson were named to the All-MW team and Reagan Leonard received Honorable Mention, with all four earning their first All-MW selections.
The four All-MW honors are the most for the program as a member of the conference as Fresno State had not received more than two all-conference selections since joining the league in 2012. In fact, just five total Bulldogs earned All-MW honors over the team's first six years in the conference.
The four all-conference selections are the most for the program since the 2003 team earned four all-conference awards as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Fresno State finished second in the MW with a 21-10 overall record and 13-5 conference mark during the 2018 regular season.
All-MW selections are based on conference matches only and are voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. The coaches also selected the individual player awards and the MW Coach of the Year honor, which went to Colorado State's Tom Hilbert for the 11th time.
Slover and Watson both earned their first All-MW honors in their senior seasons. Slover led the team and ranked third in the MW with 3.94 kills per set and 4.49 points per set in MW matches and had eight double‐doubles in conference play. She recorded double-digit kills in all but one MW match and had two 20-kill matches, leading the team in kills in every MW match. She was also second on the team in service aces and digs in league games and led the team with 270 serve receptions and a .949 serve reception average. She was named MW Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 5.
Watson ended the conference season with a MW-high 17 solo blocks and was third with 91 total blocks over 18 league contests. She recorded at least four blocks in 15 of the 18 MW matches with a season-best eight blocks in just three sets against Utah State. Watson had seven blocks in three other matches and she also hit .273 with 1.97 kills per set in league. She helped the team rank third with a .174 opponent hitting percentage in league matches and earned MW Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 15.
Halteman ranked second in the MW with 10.82 assists per set and 725 total assists in league play. She helped the 'Dogs rank third in the league with a .230 team hitting percentage in conference matches, leading the team in assists in every match with more than 20 assists in each of them. She had four matches with 50 or more assists and 10 with at least 40 assists. Halteman also ranked second on the team with six double-doubles in league matches, totaling six matches with double-digit digs and ranking third on the team with 2.21 digs per set, and led the team with 19 service aces in league. She also hit .321 and was fourth on the team with 35 blocks and was named MW Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22.
In her first season as Fresno State's starting libero, Leonard was second in the MW with 4.63 digs per set and 310 total digs in league play. She had double-digit digs in all but one MW match and 20 or more digs in five of them, leading the team in digs in 14 of 18 MW matches. Leonard was also second on the team with 1.12 assists per set in conference and had her first career double-double with 27 digs and 10 assists vs. San Jose State. Among the team's primary servers she ranked second with a .956 serve percentage in MW play and she was third in serve receptions. She was named MW Defensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season with one selection during league play.
