Funk wins 3-Meter to lead the ‘Dogs on first day of UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Kelli Funk placed first on 3-meter diving in a field of eight divers to highlight Fresno State action on the first day of the UNLV Invitational.
The 'Dogs also got third-place finishes from Manuela Mendolicchio in the 200 IM and from Brenda Diaz Martinez in the 500 Free and a fourth-place finish from Osianna Mcreed in the 50 Free. The Bulldogs are one of nine teams competing in the three-day invitational.

The 'Dogs also got third-place finishes from Manuela Mendolicchio in the 200 IM and from Brenda Diaz Martinez in the 500 Free and a fourth-place finish from Osianna Mcreed in the 50 Free. The Bulldogs are one of nine teams competing in the three-day invitational.
Diving Highlights
- Funk scored a 252.65 on 3-meter to earn her fifth total first place finish this season. She was 14.5 points ahead of the second place finisher competing against divers from Cal Poly and UNLV.
- In her first appearance on 3-meter this season, junior Irina Nikolaeva added a third-place finish for the 'Dogs scoring 229.85.
- Diaz Martinez recorded the third fastest time in program history to claim third place in the 500 Free. She swam a 4:56.70 for the fifth best time in the prelims and went 4:53.95 in the final to finish third. Zofia Niemczak, the program record holder in the event, placed third in the prelims in 4:55.17 and was just behind Diaz Martinez in fourth place in the final.
- In the 200 IM Mendolicchio was third with a time of 2:03.73 in the prelims and topped that in the final, placing third with a career-best time of 2:02.94 that ranks third in team history. Diaz Martinez qualified for the 'B' Final and was second with a Fresno State career-best time of 2:05.03.
- McReed had the fifth best prelim time in the 50 Free and moved up a spot to finish fourth in the final posting identical times of 23.33 seconds in both.
- In addition to the three individual swimming events there were also two relays on Thursday. The Fresno State A team of Ugne Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Kimberly Harbert, and McReed placed 4th in the 400 Medley Relay with a team season-best time of 3:44.89. The 'Dogs also had a season-best team from the A team in the 200 Free Relay, placing ninth in 1:34.88.
- The second day of the UNLV Invite begins with prelims at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
