Gilson scores career-best in tough loss to No. 5 Gamecocks
FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 10 Fresno State equestrian team dropped a hard fought battle to No. 5 South Carolina, 10-7, on Friday afternoon at the Student Horse Center. Fresno State swept the Western Most Outstanding Player awards as junior Shea Gilson earned her first of the season in Reining and redshirt sophomore Nicole Campbell picked up her third Horsemanship honor.

The morning began with South Carolina earning a 4-1 victory in Equitation Over Fences. Sophomore Hailey Livingston earned her first Fences victory in her first Fences ride with a 69-60 point over her opponent.

The Bulldogs and Gamecocks battled tough in the Horsemanship, finishing with a 2-2 tie in the arena. South Carolina opened up with two back-to-back points. Freshman Brooklyn Moch outscored her opponent 72.5-71 for the first Bulldog point of the event. Moch remains undefeated in Horsemanship this season.

Campbell earned the tying point for the Bulldogs with a 77 to her opponent's 67. The Crete, Ill. native earned her third MOP honor and third win of the season. Freshman Kameron Thorn tied in her ride with a score of 75.5.

At the intermission, South Carolina had a 6-3 lead.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the second half of events, tying 4-4 through the ten matchups.

In Equitation on the Flat, senior Alexandra Dirickson earned the first point for the Bulldogs with a 65-57 ride over her opponent. Freshman Cecily Hayes outscored her opponent 73-68 for the highest score by a Bulldog in the event. South Carolina would score three points in the Flat for a 3-2 victory.

Fresno State and South Carolina stayed even in Reining through the first two rides as senior Kara Gustafson (70.5) and junior Allison Nordvall (72.5) tied in their rides.

Fresno State will honor seniors Taeya Harle and Hailey Robison in a Senior Day ceremony before the first ride against Baylor.
