Bulldogs pick up road win over Eastern Washington, 68-58

CHENEY, Wash. – Following a tough one-point loss at USC in the final seconds on Wednesday, the Bulldogs regrouped on the road on Sunday afternoon with a 68-58 win on Reese Court against Eastern Washington.

Candice White led all scorers for the second straight game, giving the 'Dogs 21 points to go with six rebounds. Aly Gamez pitched in a season-high 16 points, with 11 coming in the second half. Kristina Cavey provided 12 points. The Eagles had four players in double figures, led by Violet Kapri Morrow who tallied 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

How It Happened
The two sides went back-and-forth through the first quarter before Eastern Washington gained the game's first bit of separation, taking a 15-10 lead with two minutes remaining behind a 7-0 run. The 'Dogs countered with six straight of their own before ending the period with a one-point lead at 17-16.

The Eagles continued to shoot a high percentage in the first half, but Fresno State kept the score close before striking late in the half. With just under three minutes remaining, White knocked down a 3-pointer and Delaney scored the next five points as the 'Dogs quickly took a six-point lead which they would take into the half at 37-31.

The Bulldogs built their lead up to nine two-and-a-half minutes into the third after Cavey hit a 3-pointer but the Eagles would respond. Fresno State's lead dwindled to 46-44 behind a pair of 3's from Jess McDowell-White midway through the period. Back-to-back layups from Gamez and another in transition from Cavey would push the lead back up eight by the end of the quarter.

EWU would get as close as five the rest of the way, trailing 59-54 with 5:01 to play. A pair of free throws from Maddi Utti and White where followed by a 3-pointer from White that put the game out of reach as the Bulldogs took a 66-54 lead with 44 seconds on the clock.

Fresno State will be off from action until Friday when they travel to UCLA. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT at Pauley Pavilion.
