FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Swimming & Diving team concludes its fall season with a dual at CSU Bakersfield. The diving competition will take place at 1 p.m. Friday while the swimming events will be at noon on Saturday.
Â
The Bulldogs are 3-1 in dual meets this season, having won three straight, but the dual against the Roadrunners will be the 'Dogs first road dual of the season. The matchup with Pacific on Nov. 17, which the Bulldogs won 189-104, was supposed to be a road dual but was moved to Fresno due to the Northern California fires.
Â
Fresno State is coming off a very successful trip to the UNLV Invitational last Thursday-Saturday. The 'Dogs tied for second place in a field of nine teams in the meet and virtually every Bulldog swimmer had season or career-best times over the three days in Las Vegas.
Â
Leading the 'Dogs at UNLV was junior Manuela Mendolicchio, who finished in the top four in all four of her individual races with a win in the 200 Breast. Mendolicchio also placed second in the 100 Breast and broke the school record in the 100 IM en route to being named MW Swimmer of the Week.
Â
Ugne Mazutaityte picked up a win in the 200 Back and the Bulldog divers swept the two springboard events as Irina Nikolaeva won on 1-meter and Kelli Funk took the 3-meter competition. Fresno State trailed only UC Santa Barbara while tying with host UNLV for second place in the final team standings in the mid-season invitational.
Â
CSU Bakersfield also competed at the UNLV Invitational and finished in seventh place with 301 points (Fresno State totaled 616.5 points). The 'Dogs also faced off against the Roadrunners in Bakersfield in the CSUB Sprint Classic on Oct. 19, finishing in fourth place while CSUB was fifth. Freshman Brenda Diaz Martinez won the 400 IM in a field of 30 swimmers in that meet.
Â
For CSU Bakersfield, freshman Autumn D'Arcy was named WAC Swimmer of the Week last week as she broke the program record and placed first in the 100 Fly at the UNLV Invitational. She also finished second in the 200 IM and helped CSUB's 800 Free Relay team to a third-place finish. The Roadrunners did not have any divers compete in last week's meet.
