Fresno State cruises past Cal Poly 6-1

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State picked up its first win of the weekend Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs topped Cal 6-1 at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. Today's match was the first of three at home this weekend for the 'Dogs.
"It was a good win today," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "We will take this momentum into tomorrow. We always play well at home and are looking forward to two very challenging matches tomorrow."
The Bulldogs earned the doubles with wins on Court 1 and 3. Ending just a minute a part, both matches finished 6-3.
No. 125 Emma Wilson opened up the scoring in singles play at the No. 1 position as she breezed past MacKenzie Worsnop, 6-1, 6-2. Ndindi Ndunda blanked Grace Olyphant in the second set to move the 'Dogs ahead, 3-0, with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Juliane Triebe clinched the match for Fresno State on Court 3. After a tight first set at 6-4, the sophomore seized control early in the second to 6-1. Shortly thereafter, Alessia Dario finished her match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position. Georgia Lawson closed at the day with a tightly contest match on Court 4, besting Caroline Williams 7-5, 7-6(3).
Fresno State will return to Wathen Tennis Center for a doubleheader tomorrow, hosting Saint Mary's at 10 a.m. PT and Santa Clara at 3 p.m.
