Bulldogs fall to No. 5 OSU on Senior Day, 11-8
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 5 Oklahoma State, 11-8 at the Student Horse Center on Senior Day.
Two Bulldog seniors picked up Most Outstanding Player accolades for their rides on Saturday afternoon. Kylina Chalack earned her MOP for her 80-78 ride over OSU's Carly Barrick in the fences event. Rachel Williams picked up the second MOP honor for the 'Dogs for her 75-73.5 win over Harley Huff in the horsemanship.
Fresno State saw a close match up with Oklahoma State in the equitation over fences event but fell, 3-2. The Bulldogs earned their points on two high scoring rides from Chalack and sophomore Natalie Wendt. Wendt stayed undefeated in the fences arena this weekend with a 79-74 victory over OSU's Maggie Drysch.
The Bulldogs stepped up in the horsemanship arena, earning a 4-1 victory for their best performance in the horsemanship since sweeping South Dakota State on Sept. 23. The four Bulldog points came from Williams, junior riders Katie Altenhofel and Taeya Harle and sophomore Julia Kelly. Â
The Bulldogs lead the Cowgirls 6-4 at the afternoon intermission.
The Cowgirls won the equitation on the flat event, 3-1. Fresno State's lone point came from Wendt in a 77-76 victory over Carly Barrick, moving her to 2-0 for her rides on the day. Swaffar tied in her ride against Katie Jones with a score of 72.
Oklahoma State saw its most success in the reining arena, where they were ranked No. 2 in the Feb. NCEA Events Rankings. The Cowgirls outscored the 'Dogs 4-1 in the arena to secure an 11-8 overall team victory. The solo Bulldog point was earned by sophomore Paige Barton in a 68-0 ride against Stephanie Helsen. Barton has won five consecutive reining points for the 'Dogs dating back to Nov. 10 against Delaware State. The sophomore reiner is now 9-1 on the season with her only loss being against UT-Martin on Nov. 9.
