Dixon goes undefeated but 'Dogs come up short at No. 10 South Carolina, 13-6
BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The Fresno State equestrian team earned points in all four events but came up short at No. 10 South Carolina, 13-6 in today's competition.
The Gamecocks took an early lead in the fences with a 4-1 victory in the event. The lone Bulldog point came from senior Kylina Chalack in a 75-71 win over Chloe Schmidt, marking her sixth fences point of the season.
Fresno State fought back in the horsemanship, earning two points and tieing one for an overall 2-2 tie in the event. Junior Taeya Harle tied (73.5-73.5) in her ride against Paige Stopperich while senior Taylor Dixon (71.5-69.5) and junior Katelyn Altenhofel (68.5-63.5) secured the pair of Bulldog points.
The Bulldogs trailed at the break, 6-3.
South Carolina extended its lead in the flat, earning a 4-1 victory over Fresno State. Junior Brooke Nelson earned the solo Bulldog point in her 68-65 ride against Raleigh Bacharach. Nelson picked up her fifth flat point of the season.
The 'Dogs fell in the reining, 3-2. Dixon remained undefeated on the day with a 71.5-71 ride against Paisley Roberts. The second Bulldog point was earned by sophomore Paige Barton in a 69-0 ride against Bridgett White. Barton has a team-high 10 victories in the reining this season with only one loss and three MOP accolades.
Fresno State returns to action tomorrow at No. 2 Auburn (8-3) at 9:00 am PT.
