Candice White scored 12 of her game-high 29 points in overtime.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After Colorado State forced overtime with a layup in the final seconds, Candice White took over in overtime, scoring 12 of Fresno State's 18 points, to lead the Bulldogs to a 76-65 win Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena. The win was Fresno State's first at Colorado State since 2013, snapping a four-game losing skid in Fort Collins.
The 'Dogs were led by White who posted 29 points and nine rebounds but she was not alone. Playing close to home, Berthoud, Colorado native Kristina Cavey added 17 points and four rebounds off the bench. Four other Bulldogs finished with more than eight points on the afternoon.
The win kept Fresno State within a half game of UNLV and Wyoming who are currently tied atop the league. The Bulldogs are tied for third place with Boise State at 11-4 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After missing their first two shots, the Bulldogs made five of their next six to take the early to take an 11-5 advantage midway through. Colorado State stayed in the quarter behind nine points from Stine Austgulen as the Bulldogs led 15-11 through the first.
Fresno State built its lead up to nine just over halfway through the second quarter after a 3-pointer from Jordanna Porter. Despite the Bulldogs shooting 58.3 percent in the period (7-of-12), the Rams stayed close after 20 minutes as the 'Dogs held a 31-26 lead at the break.
The high percentage during the second quarter didn't continue into the third as Fresno State shot just 16.7 percent from the field (2-of-12), missing its first eight shots of the half. Six free throws helped the 'Dogs remain within striking distance after an 11-0 run by Colorado State, keyed by three straight 3-pointers, put the Bulldogs behind for the first time in the game. A pair of free throws by Cavey at the end of the quarter pulled Fresno State to within two at 43-41 heading into the fourth.
With the Bulldogs trailing by one with seven minutes to play at 45-44, Cavey scored five straight to regain the lead for the 'Dogs. Fresno State built its lead to as much as six but CSU countered with an 8-4 run by Grace Colaivalu as the redshirt freshman tied the game at 57-57 with a layup with in the final seconds.
Once overtime started, White put the Bulldogs on her back, scoring the first 10 points. Down one after a 3-pointer from Austgulen, White dropped in back-to-back 3's and scored a layup in consecutive possessions to give Fresno State a 67-60 lead with 2:42 remaining. Porter made it a 10-0 run with a put back on the next possession to put the game out of reach.

QUOTES
Head Coach Jaime White on the game…
"I thought we started the game well, got some stops and rebounds. We got a little bit of a lead, went into the half and made some adjustments, but we knew they would make adjustments too and they did. When they hit those three 3's we had to figure that out but our kids were never really shaken. Everybody played solid and kept focused which was important.
On what worked in the second half to keep the game close during their run and then regain the lead…
"During the second half we drove and attacked and got some and-ones, and I think that put them on their heels a bit."
On the adjustments going into overtime…
"The way the 6-point lead went away was when Grace [Colaivalu]] came in and did a good job so obviously the adjustment was how do we guard her. I thought we did a better job and matched Aly [Gamez] on that side to her and said to keep in her front and for Maddi [Utti] to come up if she got past."
On the play of Candice White…
"Candice White was as big as any in overtime. I thought she just willed us a win there. That showed a lot of good leadership. I felt that she kind of came into her game again. She's always helpful whether it's on rebounding or defense if she's not scoring. I just thought the old Candice showed up tonight. Tough plays, the drives, getting fouled, hitting the 3's off the switch."
On the balance of the team in recent weeks…
"It was great team play. Candice did a great job but I think our team is slowly but surely gaining momentum going into the championships. It's good to see. At the beginning of the year, I didn't know who it was going to be so it's nice to see our team growing and maturing and having those performances. They're always stepping up for their team."
Candice White on the mindset in overtime…
"When overtime started, I just knew that we had to get stops. It was stop, score, stop."
On taking over in overtime…
"I think what it really came down to is that I did not want to lose there again after the outcomes the last two years."
