Bulldogs fall to No. 4 Texas A&M, 12-6

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 6 Fresno State equestrian team fell at No. 4 Texas A&M, 12-6, on Saturday afternoon.

"It was great to score points in each event today, but not quite enough," said head coach Eric Hubbard. "We look forward to getting back home in a few weeks and having strong showings against SMU and Oklahoma State."

The Bulldogs saw most outstanding player honors from senior Rachel Williams in the horsemanship, junior Alexandra Dirickson in the flat and sophomore Paige Barton in the reining.

Texas A&M had an early 3-1 advantage over Fresno State in the horsemanship arena. Williams earned the lone Bulldog point and her first horsemanship MOP of the season with a 76.5-75 win over Avery Ellis. Junior Katelyn Altenhofel tied TAMU's Alex Albright with a score of 72.5 for the final ride of the event.

In the equitation on the flat event, TAMU outscored Fresno State 3-2. Senior Kylina Chalack earned her point on an 83-81 victory over Rebekah Chenelle. For the Bulldogs' second victory in the flat arena, Dirickson earned a career-best 93-85 victory over Rachael Hake which secured her first MOP honor of the season.

At the afternoon intermission, the Aggies lead 6-3.

In the reining, Barton earned her third MOP of the season with a close 68-67.5 win over Madison Bohman. Senior Hailey Robison earned her first victory in the reining arena this season with a 69-67.5 win over TAMU's Haley Franc. The Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 in the reining.

For the final rides of the day, Dirickson saw the only fences victory for the 'Dogs in an 83-82 win over Chenelle to go undefeated in her competitions today. The Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in the arena after Chalack tied Alex Desiderio with a score of 81.

Fresno State is back in action against No. 2 SMU on Friday, Feb. 16 and No. 3 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 17 for senior day at the Student Horse Center. Riding is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am PT each day.
