Taylor named to NABC All-District 17 First Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- Fresno State junior guard Deshon Taylor was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as a first-team All-District 17 honoree, the organization announced on Tuesday.

"I'm extremely happy for Deshon Taylor," Fresno State interim head coach Byron Jones said. "He has put in a lot of hard work for our program and has been a great ambassador for Fresno State Basketball."

Taylor, who finished the season by averaging 17.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game, was a key part of the Bulldogs earning a 21-11 record and a top four finish in a competitive Mountain West conference, which is one of nine conferences in the country with multiple bids into the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Taylor also made a new single-season program record 200 free throws, which currently ranks tied for ninth in the nation. Taylor ranked fifth in the MW with an 83.3 free throw percentage (200-for-240).

Earlier this month, Taylor earned first-team All-Mountain West and All-Defense Team honors from the MW's head coaches, first-team All-MW honors from the MW Wire staff and second-team All-MW honors from a select MW Media panel of newspaper beat reporters.

Fresno State has won at least 20 games in each of the past three seasons (including this season) and four times in the last five seasons. Taylor is one of three starters set to return for the 2018-19 season, along with sophomore forward Bryson Williams and junior guard/forward Sam Bittner. Fresno State will open the season in November, which includes three non-conference games in the 2018 Wooden Legacy. The ESPN owned and operated event will be played at Titan Gym on campus of Cal State Fullerton during Thanksgiving Week.
