Bulldog divers head to Arizona for NCAA Zone Championships

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State divers Serena Sedillo, Irina Nikolaeva, and Kelli Funk will compete for a spot in the NCAA Championship at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships Monday-Wednesday at the Wall Aquatic Center in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Prelims each day begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time with finals scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The women's schedule begins with 1-meter diving on Monday followed by 3-meter on Tuesday and platform on Wednesday. Based on the number of entrants relative to other zones, the top-nine finishers on both 1-meter and 3-meter will qualify for the NCAA Championship while the top-eighth on platform will advance.

Sedillo and Funk will compete on all three boards while Nikolaeva, who hasn't dived on platform all season due to injury, will only dive on 1-meter and 3-meter. There are 96 total male and female divers from 22 schools competing, including eight Mountain West schools. Â

The Bulldogs had strong showings on each of the three boards at the Mountain West Championship, with each of the three leading the team on a board. Sedillo broke the program conference meet record on 3-meter, scoring 329.10 on the final to finish in third place. All three divers placed in the top 15 in the prelims as Funk and Nikolaeva qualified for the consolation final.

Funk led the 'Dogs on platform at the MW Championship, placing second in the prelims and finishing fourth overall. Sedillo also made the final on platform and placed seventh. On 1-meter, Nikolaeva placed seventh among 37 divers in the prelims to qualify for the final, where she finished 8th.
