4/22/2018 6:53:00 PM | Men's Golf
BREMERTON, Wash. – Freshman Lane Pulliam and junior Alex Lee both concluded play in the top 10 at the 2018 Mountain West Championship on Sunday to lead Fresno State to a fourth-place finish. Pulliam was solid in the final round, carding a 1-over-par 73 and a collective even-par 216 for the tournament. Lee posted a stellar 3-under-par 69 in round three, his second sub-par round of the weekend, to match Pulliam's even-par 216. Both Pulliam and Lee tied for ninth place.
"I'm proud of how this team fought this entire week," head coach Chad Spencer. "Having two top-10 finishers was tremendous. The freshmen learned a ton during this tournament and this team is in a great position for the future. Now we await to see if Alex Lee will make it to the NCAA Regionals."
The Bulldogs were paced by Alex Lee's superb 3-under-par 69 on Sunday. Lee's 69 was the only sub-70 round by the 'Dogs this weekend. The junior was 1-over-par on the front but caught fire on the back, carding a 4-under-par 32 thanks to five birdies. His tie for ninth marks his best finish at a MW Championship during his Fresno State career, outdoing last year's 15th-place effort.
Lane Pulliam posted pars on his first 16 holes before bogeying No. 17 and eventually finishing with a 1-over-par 73 in the final round. The freshman played with maturity beyond his years this weekend, earning him a tie for ninth place in his first MW Championship appearance. Pulliam's ninth-place finish was his highest of the season.Â
Cody Riecks carded a 4-over-par 76 in the final round to finish with a 7-over-par 223 for the tournament. His weekend was highlighted by an even-par 72 in the second round, on a day when low scores were at a premium because of difficult weather conditions. Riecks finished in a tie for 24th.
Michael Cliff couldn't quite get things going on Sunday. He shot 3-over-par on the front and 6-over-par on the back to finish with a 9-over-par 81. Cliff's best round of the Championship came on Friday when he fired a 1-over-par 73. The freshman ended play in a tie for 37th to round out the Bulldog scorers.
Justin Avery wrapped up his weekend with a 12-over-par 84. The senior's low round also came in round one when he posted a 1-over-par 73.
The NCAA men's golf selection show will be carried on the Golf Channel on May 2 at 2:30 p.m. PT to determine how many Mountain West teams and individuals continue their respective seasons past this weekend. The Bulldogs' Alex Lee has a chance to make it to the NCAA Regionals as an individual.Â
