How Lee can advance (Format):
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships, May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. - meaning the lowest 54-hole score among the individuals from the teams that place outside the top five and the five individual qualifiers will vie for the single individual spot available for the final.
Notes:
- Alex Lee enters the Raleigh NCAA Regional as an individual qualifier. The junior is playing his best golf of the season, as he is coming off three straight top-10 finishes.
- Overall, Lee has posted six top-10 finishes this season, including his first-career win at the Geiberger Invitational at PGA West on April 9-10 when he shot a 7-under-par 209.
- His first top 10 came at the Nick Watney Invitational. At the team's lone home tournament, Lee posted a 5-over-par 218 to finish in a tie for ninth place.
- Lee then captured his first top 5 finish of the season at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. He fired a 9-under-par 207 to claim a tie for fourth.
- The junior began his spring slate with a tied for 10th place finish at the Pepperdine Waves Challenge and then concluded it with the three-straight aforementioned top-10 finishes.
- The Sacramento native led the Bulldogs in numerous categories throughout 2018, including: Scoring Average (72.13, 0.56 vs. par), Low Round (65), Birdies (113) and Pars per Round (10.78). But maybe most impressive, Lee fired the best par-5 scoring average (4.53) among Fresno State players dating back to 1993-94, edging out accomplished Bulldog Nick Watney's mark of 4.54.
- Alex Lee is the third 'Dog to advance to an NCAA Regional since Fresno State joined the Mountain West in 2012, joining Rufie Fessler (2013) and Trevor Clayton (2016).
- Of the 14 participating teams, four are in the top 25 and 11 of the 14 are in top 100 in the latest Golfstat Rankings. Fresno State concluded the 2018 season ranked No. 108. (Last updated – May 2, 2018).
- Three out of the five individual qualifiers for the Raleigh Regional are ranked in the Top 200.
- Alex Lee came in at No. 220 in the latest Golfstat Player Rankings (May 2, 2018).
- The weather forecast for the Raleigh Regional is all over the place. Monday will reach a high of 95F with a low of 69F. There will also be a 20 percent chance of rain, 43 percent humidity and calm winds. Tuesday will bring a high of 87F with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms. The wind will stay relatively calm at 9 mph but the humidity increases to nearly 60 percent. Wednesday will carry an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms with gusts up to 10 mph. The humidity will also increase to 70 percent with temperatures reaching the low-80s.
