Senior Spotlight: Nick Warren

Fresno State Baseball will celebrate its four seniors in this weekend's final home series against UNLV this weekend (May 17-19).
Warren is a product of Saugus High School where he was a three-year letter winner in baseball. He was a major contributor as a four-year catcher for his high school program. As the team captain in his senior season, he hit .406 at the plate and was named the Defensive Player of the Year as well as earning First-Team All-League and First-Team All-Area honors.

The Saugus, Calif. native has been with the Fresno State baseball program for five years after making use of his redshirt season as a freshman in 2014. Warren graduated last May with a degree in communication and is currently pursuing his master's degree.

Warren came out in 2015 with 24 appearances and a pair of starts at catcher for the Bulldogs. He finished his first active year with a .293 mark at the plate with 12 hits, including two doubles, a triple and one home run. He scored six runs and drove in five RBIs on the year. Warren had three multi-hit games in the 2015 season while recording a .463 slugging percentage and a .362 on-base percentage.

He followed that up with a strong year for the Bulldog catcher in 2016. Warren appeared in 49 games as a sophomore, making 44 starts behind the plate. He added 30 hits on the season for a .229 average with 11 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Warren chalked six multi-hit games in his sophomore season and posted a .252 slugging percentage and a .320 on-base percentage. Warren led the team defensively with 312 putouts while adding 35 assists and finishing with a .986 fielding percentage. The sophomore earned Academic All-Mountain West honors for his first Academic MW accolade of his career.

Warren appeared in 17 games while making seven starts at catcher for the 'Dogs in 2017 picking up four hits, three runs scored and a RBI.Â

In his final year at Fresno State this spring, Warren has appeared in 38 games and has made 25 starts on the season so far. He has knocked 22 hits and scored 12 runs with 10 RBIs and a .232 average at the plate. Warren has seven multi-hit games this year with a season-best three hits against Long Beach State (March 29). The senior blasted his second career home run on April 17 against Saint Mary's as a grand slam to record a season-best five RBIs. Making the transition from catcher to playing primarily at first base this season, Warren has recorded 235 putouts with only three errors for a .988 fielding mark.
In total, Warren has appeared in 128 career games for the 'Dogs making 78 starts and has 68 hits, nine doubles, 38 runs scored and 27 RBIs.

Warren caught up with GoBulldogs.com to reflect back on his five-year career while at Fresno State.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Bulldog?
Warren: "My most memorable moment would be winning the 2016 Mountain West Conference championship and also every day that I get to spend with my brothers on the team."
Q: How was your transition into becoming a Fresno State athlete?
Warren: " Coming to Fresno State, I learned how important your education is and how important it is to find a balance between school and baseball."

Q: Who have you most looked up to while at Fresno State?
Warren: "In my younger years, I most looked up to Brody Russell (2013-16), Jordan Luplow (2012-14) and Kevin Viers (2013-16)."

Q: How would your teammates describe you?
Warren: " My teammates would probably describe me as sarcastic and competitive."

Q: What will you miss the most about Fresno State?
Warren: "I will definitely miss being able to be around my best friends everyday both on the field and off the field."

Warren: " This senior class is definitely hard nosed and gritty."
